Permanent residency through Cookery Course JOB READY PROGRAM SIMPLIFIED Commercial cookery is currently one of the most popular trade courses for international students. With the hospitality industry of Australia growing steadily over the past 5 years and the introduction of ‘foodie’ culture, the surge in interest of international students in the commercial cookery and hospitality sectors was likely to happen. Moreover, the skilled migration pathways available via cookery courses are also strong incentives for international students to pursue education and career in this sector. This is specific to the cases where an individual has no prior experience or education related to the hospitality sector. The information presented in this article is just for basic information purposes. Please consult a registered migration agent to get personalised guidance. As an individual with no prior education or experience relevant to hospitality, you must go via the Study pathway of commercial cookery and get skill assessment from Trade Recognition Australia (TRA). But what are the steps involved? How much does it cost? There are many details you must know before you commit to this path. This post will briefly touch on the process and the requirements of the Job Ready Program in the simplest way possible. From education to final skill assessment, the process can be broken down into the following 7 steps. Step 1 Enrol in Certificate III, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery leading to Diploma of Hospitality Management (total Tuition approx $20,000) Step 2 Complete Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, and apply for JRP( Job Ready programme) Stage 1 Provisional Skill Assessment(PSA) – You will need to submit a reference letter with evidence of pay. TRA Stage 1 Fee is $300. Step 3 After completing Diploma of Hospitality management, apply for Temporary Graduate Subclass 485 visa. You must have applied for PSA to be eligible for application of Graduate Work stream 485 visa. Step 4 As soon as you apply your 485 visa, find a full time job as a CHEF if you can, otherwise start as a COOK and progress to Chef. Step 5 Enter JRP Stage 2 ( Job Ready Employment) as soon as you confirm your job as a CHEF – TRA Stage 2 Fee is $500. You must hold a suitable visa that allows you to work full time for the upcoming 12 months. To pass this stage, you must provide completed Employment verification reports and Quarterly progress reports along with the pay evidence for a minimum of 863 hours. Step 6 As you complete 863 hours of paid employment in the role and complete stage 2, continue with Stage 3 (Job Ready Workplace Assessment). An assessor from TRA will visit your workplace to complete this assessment. TRA Stage 3 Fee is $2000. Step 7 Apply for Stage 4 (Job Ready Final Assessment ) and get a full skill assessment as a CHEF – TRA Stage 4 Fee is $150. Successful Completion of this stage requires you to complete a minimum of 1725 hours of paid full time employment in the nominated occupation i.e. CHEF over a minimum of 12 months, which is the main reason why you must have a suitable visa that allows you to work full time. Having a positive skill assessment in your nominated occupation is a key step in skilled migration to Australia. It will give you multiple options for permanent migration to Australia. Points tested visa such as: Skilled Independent subclass 189 visa Skilled nominated subclass 190 visa Skilled work regional (provisional) subclass 491 visa ( state nominated or family sponsored) Non-point tested visa such as. Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186 visa that follows after temporary Skill Shortage subclass 482 visa. Please visit the link below for in-depth guidelines on Job Ready Program https://www.tradesrecognitionaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/job_ready_program_applicant_guidelines.pdf?v=1581311205 Following is the basic Breakdown of fees for steps involved in education and skill assessment.
